Born in Florence, Oregon Jacob decided to start his running career in 8th grade for track but didn't get really get going until high school for Siuslaw high in XC. Working his way up and never missing a practice even in the off season, he became one of the fastest runners in the state with PRs of 2:01.33 in the 800; 4:04.33 in the 1500; and 8:50.67 in the 3000. Coming in 2nd place in the 3000 and 4th in the 1500 at the Oregon State meet, Jacob decided to further his career for Lane Community College.
